Artificial Intelligence (AI)
As the use of artificial intelligence expands, reshaping our economy, workforce, and national security, the United States has a responsibility and an opportunity to lead. We must stay globally competitive while ensuring that American values like fairness, accountability, and democratic oversight shape the rules of the road.
In terms of regulation, we should focus on high-risk uses of AI, require transparency and accountability, and ensure that people — not algorithms alone — remain responsible for critical decisions that impact lives. I support rigorous testing before releasing models to the public, transparency and disclosure around issues that impact communities and safety, algorithmic audits to prevent bias and discrimination, data privacy protections, and consumer safeguards.
The risk of large companies dominating the AI landscape and shaping regulations to serve their own interests is also a concern. The regulatory process must be transparent and serve the public— not corporate lobbyists. We need strong antitrust enforcement to encourage competition and ensure no single company or CEO holds disproportionate influence over our economy or democracy.
My priority is simple: protect people, our national security interests, and ensure innovation serves the public good. I will bring together experts, industry leaders, and community advocates who can offer expertise on the protection of minors, privacy, and industry standards.
We must ensure that we are harnessing the benefits of AI while acknowledging the risks to privacy, jobs, energy infrastructure, and the environment and taking data surrounding growth, displacement, training, and workforce transition into account.
