Public Safety

I’ve spent my career working to prevent violence, whether through law enforcement, community partnerships, or trauma-informed care. In Congress, I’ll fight for evidence-based strategies that address the root causes of harm: poverty, disinvestment, and lack of opportunity. That means investing in mental health services, greening vacant lots, and rehabilitating abandoned buildings, all of which are proven interventions that reduce violence and strengthen neighborhoods. I’ll support coordinated threat assessment programs, crisis response teams, and violence prevention initiatives that bring together law enforcement, public health, and community leaders.

Safety is the presence of dignity, stability, and trust, not simply the absence of crime. Therefore, public safety must be proactive, not reactive.
